Summer is usually a quieter month for joiners but we have seen another 12 members join through the summer period which is great news. It is pleasing to hear the amount of “word of mouth” joiners recommended by existing members.

Ambassador Programme

Our lovely Joanne Simpson who is known to most of you and has run the Ambassador programme for many years is moving on for a new adventure in Germany with her family. Joanne was my ambassador when I came to Valencia, was so welcoming and introduced me to the IWC and we became great friends. I will really miss her personally. Thank you for all your work, Joanne and Bon Voyage!

Famke Grootswagers has kindly agreed to take over the programme and will be in touch with current and new members who are interested in becoming an ambassador. Please contact her on fgrootswagers@gmail.com

CHARITIES & FUNDRAISING

Pauline Fitzgerald, VP – Charities

Summer is slowly coming to an end and after all the wonderful holidays and good times spent with family and friends we refocus from September on the needs of our charities. For those of you who wish to make a private donation, the bank details of our charities are as follows; please ensure that you note IWCV in the reference box.

Proyecto Vivir: ES75 3159 0066 9828 5328 2123

Casa Caridad: La Caixa ES47 2100 0736 0022 0061 23102 or Banco Sabadell ES75 0081 7352 4300 0105 7311

Casa Ronald: ES27 0081 1518 9300 0150 8057

PROYECTO VIVIR

PV once again has asked for volunteers for their store in an attempt to maintain normal business hours. The store is a main source of income for the charity. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Proyecto Vivir by email: social@proyectovivir.es or telephone +34 647 738 103 If you call Proyecto Vivir, please ask to speak with Cindy who organizes the rotas for the store. The store is located at Calle González Márti 3, 46008 Valencia. In parallel, donations of used clothes (all ages) & small household items would be welcomed at the store. Members of the charities team will be accepting donations at our IWCV coffee morning on September 3rd. Otherwise please drop off your donations at the PV Store. Please watch your emails for PV tours & events in the coming months.

CASA CARIDAD

At our Coffee Morning on September 3rd, we will continue to collect donations to support Casa Caridad. Casa Caridad is a nonprofit organization located in Valencia that responds to the needs of homeless people and is one of the charities that IWCV has been supporting for a long time. In addition to providing shelter to homeless individuals, they also supply food to families in need by preparing food packages. We would appreciate your help in supporting their efforts by donating women's hygiene products, which can be used onsite, and/or olive oil, which will be included in the food packages. (This is something they have in short supply and would be grateful for our support).

CASA RONALD

Casa Ronald is asking for our help. As you know, the use of the household appliances at the Ronald House in Valencia is very high and for the first time in 11 years one of the washing machines has broken. They need to replace it so that the families can have service again and to ensure its durability they must buy a semi-industrial washing machine which costs €1,850. Casa Ronald have created a page where they can receive tax-deductible donations. https://participa.fundacionronald.org/SOSlavadoraCasaRonaldVLC

Again, a big shout out to you wonderful ladies for continuing to support those less fortunate! Our three charities are extremely grateful for everything we do.

ACTIVITIES

Susan March, +34 651 858463

This month begins a new season of Activities, Tours, and IWCV Group Events – see above and take a look at our website (www.iwc-valencia.com) for complete details!

Here are updates from some of our Activities Coordinators:

Monday Mahjong - Jane Buck

Monday Mahjong will resume in September at Muff & Co Restaurant (delicious African/Caribbean food - worth trying!), and a new class for those who would like to learn to play will also start in September. If you are interested, please email Jane at forjbuck@aol.com.

Women Who Walk - Liz Humphreys

The Women’s Who Walk group will restart our active walks on September the 6th.  I will lead the westerly walks, but we need a new leader for the easterly direction (every second week).  It’s not a difficult job 😂. You just have to post an invitation and walk with those who want to head east (towards the City of Arts and Sciences).  We usually finish our walk by having coffee together. WhatsApp me to be added to the Women Who Walk chat. +34 637 74 89 90”

Spanish and Coffee - Mary Reeves

Coffee and conversation continue to meet every Wednesday from 11-12:15 in the Corte Ingles home goods store cafe. We are a group of Spanish speakers of all levels, and we practice in a fun and supportive environment. WhatsApp me to be added to the Spanish and Coffee chat. +34 686 50 20 90

Chicas de Libros - Ruth Ann Hepler

The Chicas meet on the second Tuesday of each month at 18:00. To learn more about the group and the next book on the agenda, WhatsApp Ruth Ann to be added to the WhatsApp group chat. +34 613 39 54 58

Solo Women: Silvia Matos

The Solo Women meet the first and third Friday of each month.  We enjoy getting to know each other, visiting new restaurants, and enjoying concerts and other cultural activities in town. We meet twice monthly on Friday evenings, 19:00 - 22:00. We have a new meeting spot:  https://homenaje-gourmet.com/. This is located near city hall C/ de la Sang, 11, Ciutat Vella. WhatsApp me to be added to the WhatsApp chat and learn about our next social gathering. +34 666 68 35 74

Board Games - Ann Linton

We have two ways to have fun! One is our Member-hosted Games, where members host games at their homes - please consider signing up to host. Another is that we now have a fantastic venue for our Monthly Gameplay at Taberna La Mora on the last Tuesday of every month. All the details are on the IWCV website. Contact me to join the WhatsApp chat and learn more! +1 312 208 8666
